Q&A: Styling your winter wardrobe
The Rubyyaya founder and designer takes you through her most asked questions of the season.
I'M FINALLY READY TO WEAR COLOUR AGAIN, WHAT'S TRENDING NOW?
In 2022, we are collectively seeking calmness. People are craving comfort that comes from simple colours. People want familiarity and security mixed with minimalism. Life was over-whelming pre-pandemic. People want to slow down, reflect and have fun.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PRINT/ COLOUR OF THE SEASON?
Nishikori print in navy, chocolate, emerald, pink. This print has a "back to nature" vibe that feels calming and refreshing Floral hues in a toned down, desaturated colour palette creating an earthy, old-school and comfortably worn in vintage feel.
HOW SHOULD I APPROACH ACCESSORISING MY OUTFITS?
Accessories play a big role in our wardrobe and can transform the whole dynamic of an outfit. Your choice of accessories and how you use them can speak volumes about you as a person. Focus on what you love rather than following trends. Whatever you wear must spark joy, memories and confidence.
GOING TO BRUNCH WITH FRIENDS... WHAT SHOULD I WEAR!?
As most brunch locations don't require you to dress up, aim for a casual yet refined look. Centre your outfit around staple pieces such as the Norma jean. Don't be afraid to experiment with prints and florals such as the Astana patch shirt or the Zanzibar bomber jacket for a bold statement with minimal effort. Dress your look up or down with leather sneakers, boots or a great pair of ballet flats or kitten heels. Accessorise your outfit with some fashionable sunglasses and jewellery such as a simple gold necklace, stud earrings and a classic watch to complete your look.
